Extra flight from Virgin Atlantic to the Caribbean

From October 2011 Virgin Atlantic will operate a flight from Gatwick to Grenada bringing the total number of flights weekly to Grenada to 5. Grenada has become a very popular location for UK holiday makers, the addition of an extra flight will help keep up with demand as well as give travellers more flexibility over the duration of their stay.

Multi storey car park opens at Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport parking capacity increased to 32,000 spaces with the opening of a new multi storey car park. The new car park which took less than 9 months to construct will accommodate 1,117 vehicles bringing the total number of car parking spaces at the airport to 32,600.

By the end of October 2011 the car park will be linked by means of covered walkway to the North Terminal check in. Airport management believe the new facility will provide passengers with added convenience and an improved passenger experience.

Gatwick bound plane forced into an emergency landing.

A Thomson Jet taking off from Sanford Airport Florida bound for Gatwick was forced into a emergency landing shortly after take-off after a bird flew into one of the engines of the aircraft.

The 254 passengers on board the plane praised the pilot and the crew for keeping everybody informed and calm, passengers were made aware of the incident after a loud bang before smelling smoke inside the airplane.

The plane could have continued to fly on one engine however the pilot took the precaution of returning back to Sanford Airport for the plane to be checked over. Passengers said the pilot told them there had been a bird strike and the plane would be returning to the airport.

A spokeswoman for Thomson Airways said the aircraft landed 20 minutes after take-off and no passengers were injured during the incident. All 254 people were provided with free accommodation while alternative travel arrangements were organised.

Railway station at Gatwick Airport upgraded for Olympics.

Worries about congestion at the 2012 London Olympics have resulted in plans to upgrade the rail link to Gatwick Airport being brought forward. Passengers will benefit from an improved concourse layout, new escalators and lifts and modern information screens and additional help points. Work to the track is also being brought forward to improve reliability in time for the London Olympics.

Gatwick Airport will act as a major transport link during the period of the games and its vital for the reputation of the airport and London that the service it provides is comfortable and efficient.

The hotel has a total of 151 rooms all providing stylish 4 star accommodation. The hotel is a popular choice with people using the Airport thanks in part to excellent location, super accommodation and competitive room rates.

Convenience for Airport. Secure car park. Staff were polite and looked after us.

The room was very clean and presentable which helped to make our short stay enjoyable. Proximity of the hotel to the airport made very easy on the day our flight left.

The room was very clean, well sized with plenty of room to stretch your legs and appointed in a very modern way. The hotel was close to Gatwick International but did not suffer from noise at night. No problems sleeping

The Sofitel Gatwick is linked the Airport North Terminal by means of a covered walkway. The Gatwick Express rail link into London is located close by. Accommodation is of a very high standard, guest s dining at the hotel can choose from 3 excellent restaurants.

Incredibly comfortable bed in what was a beautiful room. The restaurant was great.

2.4 Million Passengers in March

GIP the owners of Gatwick International Airport announced that growth was smaller than expected resulting in less growth than its main rival London Heathrow. Gatwick passenger numbers were up by 1.4% in March in comparison Heathrow saw an increase of just under 3%.

Over the last 12 months passenger number were down by 800,000 due in a number of unforeseen circumstances including the volcanic eruptions in Iceland and the heavy snow in the UK before Christmas.

extremely handy for flight and very calm atmosphere

6am flight was made less stressful as we were able to walk to the terminal
