Airport Security
All modern airports have security as their main priority, Gatwick Airport is no exception.
Security at airports has to be strict and at times it can seem intrusive and quite daunting as well inconvenient and time consuming. By following a few simple recommendations passengers can help to make the security procedure less painful.
Try to have your boarding card ready for inspection. Abide by hand bag restrictions. Make sure you have liquids, gels, creams in transparent re-sealable bags. Take of your coat so that it can be screened as you pass through the security arch and be aware that you may be asked to take of your shoes and belt. Gatwick Airport has recently installed body scanners, you may be asked to be screened with body scanning equipment.
You will be held up at security control if you pack prohibited items into your hand luggage. The following items if found in your hand luggage will be taken from you and not returned.
Scissors, Razor blades, Knives, Household cutlery (small teaspoons are allowed), Hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reasons, for which proof will be required), Tools (including multi-tools and penknives) and Corkscrews.
The following items cannot be taken on an airplane and must not be packed in your luggage.
Flammable liquids and solids, Oxidisers such as bleaching powder, Organic peroxides, Instruments containing mercury, Instruments containing magnets, Creosote, quicklime, oiled paper and Fireworks.
